Review: Bennett (On the Line #2) by Brenda Rothert

5 Stars

Umm.. Bennett... what's not to like? Sexy hockey players, a cute romance, drama, a dumb ex-boyfriend, and an over-protective older brother... yeah I'd say this is a new favorite. Not only are is the writing fabulous and light and fun and perfect, but the storyline definitely deviates from the normal hockey romance I love the way this book is unique.

The great thing about this read lies in the fact that's its a great romance read with dark undertones that don't fully delve in the darkness but instead bring it to light every once in a while. I loved how the author made sure to keep the romance pretty light and interesting but those undertones peek out and keep the romance serious. This balance was kept pretty consistently throughout the novel and allowed for the characters to be consistent too, something that other books sometimes miss as they focus on the drama and not the actual plot line.romance read with dark undertones that don't fully delve in the darkness but instead bring it to light every once in a while. I loved how the author made sure to keep the romance pretty light and interesting but those undertones peek out and keep the romance serious. This balance was kept pretty consistently throughout the novel and allowed for the characters to be consistent too, something that other books sometimes miss as they focus on the drama and not the actual plot line.

I don't know what it is, but I feel like unplanned pregnancies prove the worth of the characters and really determine not only how the characters see each other but also how the reader sees the characters. I also love seeing how the characters then have to react toward this big change in their lives and how the dynamic changes. This was a major part of the book that just had me biting my lip in glee as Charlott pulled on the independent women outlook and really challenged the more traditional thoughts of the male characters. I think a big reason I love these books so much because there's respect that goes into seeing what kind of hardships unplanned pregnancies have on not only the characters personally but also professionally.

Charlott is the character who has my complete respect and absolutely made this book for me. She had a very strong personality and was known to be hard-headed when it came to her career and her independence. These character traits are ones that a lot of female readers are looking for in their female leads because it makes for an interesting and dynamic read instead of one that seems weak and easily susceptible to others wants. I mean, Charlott really went above and beyond in every aspect in her life and I love the power and confidence she had in herself and the things she could do both personally and professionally.

Then there was Bennett who I couldn't help but crush on throughout the novel because of his manner and his absolute devotion to those he loves. I couldn't help but fall in love with his gentleman-like manner that not only took me by surprise but also took Charlott by surprise. There was this chemistry between Bennett and Charlott that was just fun and interesting to read about even as they struggled with their feelings and aligning those feelings to their beliefs and past experiences.

Overall, this book was the definition of a great read that keeps the interest of readers and takes them on a journey through love and constant surprise. I've already read and loved the first book that came before this, but I have to say that this series only gets better and I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series! So as this book released this week, pick it up and make sure to check out the first book in the series too!
