5 FABULOUS AWESTRUCK STARS!
The Broken Prince by Erin Watt is literally everything I could hope for to follow up Paper Princess (the first book) and MORE. I mean there were a lot of variables presented in the first book and a lot of sh*t that went down right?!
And yet Erin Watt managed to keep the second book interesting, set up even more sh*t that goes down, and literally have me salivating for more drama until the very last page which took the whole series in a direction I NEVER saw coming... skills and props!
After reading Paper Princess and being left with the cliff hanger, I really didn't have high expectations because I knew it would be very challenging to keep up the hype to the second novel... and yet Watt far succeeded whatever I could have thought up and really brought a whole new level to this series. Not only are the bullies crueler, the fights bigger, but the whole drama itself has grown into this huge monster which is swallowing some of my favorite characters whole!
The thing I admire most about this novel are the characters and their personalities. A lot of situations pop up in this book that cause authors wanting their characters to a) give up, or b) cheat... both of which I find kind of despicable within novels and very serious offenses on my no-no list. Yet the characters in this novel not only stick to their guns (sometimes facing off an entire school) but they also don't do dumb petty stuff found in other novels (although there are some incriminating circumstances). I like to actually like the characters I am reading about and Watt makes this possible by creating these characters who are definitely bad*ss but also have a softer side.
Paper Princess definitely had some moments of comedic relief peppered throughout the novel and I am very glad to report that so does Broken Prince. Having these hints of laughter and moments really brightened this book up for me and broke up all of the serious issues presented. I really enjoyed finding out more about the Royal brothers and seeing their reactions to some of Ella's decisions. In the first book there was definitely a Royals v. Ella vibe going on and in this book that little battle breaks a part and several new teams form.
What I would love to see happen with this series is a branch off series about each of the Royal brothers and their own personal struggles to find romance within their crazy lives. I have definitely fallen for more than one Royal and would like to see the crazy up close and in their POV. I don't know about you but I'm all for more Royals! ;)
Overall though, this is a book that is going to keep you on your toes and constantly guessing what will happen next. I definitely had no idea where the author was going next but in each new direction she hit everything right on the money and managed to create a book equal to, if not better than, Paper Princess. So check out the newly released Broken Prince today!!!
