RELEASE DAY BLITZ
Title: Redemptive (Combative Trilogy 2)
Author: Jay McLeanRelease Day: March 8
It's said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die.
It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy.
Clearly, mine was not.
The only thing that happened to me was a repeat of what I thought was my death.
The blast of the gun as it went off.
The loss of my breath as two hundred pounds of dead weight dropped on top of me.
And then darkness.
This replayed over and over.
When the guy squatted down next to me and asked if I was hurt, the only thing I could see, feel,
hear, were those few seconds.
Even now, as I sat in the back of a blacked out van—it was the only thing that ran through my mind.
Gunshot, breath, darkness.

So I'm just going to go ahead and admit that I went into this novel with a lot of ideas and expectations of what exactly would happen within Redemptive and how it would continue off Combative...Um yeah. So this book was completely and absolutely different than I thought it would be. I was so prepared to pick off where Combative left off (you know, on that huge cliffhanger that made me want to cry because it was so good?), that I literally thought I knew what to expect. Nope. I'm completely wrong and feel almost a little dumb to think that I would know where the genius of Jay McLean's brain would go next with her books. Yah, I just don't have her creative mind which would take one cliffhanger and then instead of solving the present one, the one about the past is instead solved/introduced.
Jay McLean once again blows my puny little mind by creating a novel which surpasses and completely bypasses expectations and takes every reader on a journey filled with fear, confusion, love, insanity, and all of those other little emotions that punch you in the gut and make you feel.
In this book, we see more of Bailey than ever before. In Combative, there was an alternating perspective between two characters, one of them being Bailey while this book is based on Bailey and another character. Yet even with this alternating perspective, there isn't as much mystery about Bailey's past because this is what this book is all about: the past. I really actually loved this concept because there were so many uncertainties presented within the first novel and now there is a complete understanding of the characters and their pasts. Knowing more about Bailey and the kind of things she went through to survive just heightened by respect and admiration for her as a character and I now see the first novel in a whole new way.
I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'm just going to briefly mention the other perspective without giving away who it is... All i will say is that I really fell in love with the characters from the first novel and this new book just changed my whole perspective to where I'm floundering on who will get the girl in the end.
Overall, this book completely blew my mind and changed everything I thought I knew about the characters and the things they went through that brought them to the present which was presented in the first novel. Jay McLean truly created a masterpiece/mind f*ck that leaves me desperately in need of the third novel of the series!
