Tour: Anya and the Shy Guy ~ Suze Winegardner

Anya and the Shy Guy (Backstage Pass #4)
Release Date: 07/14/15
Entangled Crush

Anya Anderson doesn’t just need a big break, she needs any break. Living on the streets doesn’t leave a girl many options, so when she scores a gig reporting on the Seconds to Juliet tour, she jumps at the chance to earn enough money to sleep somewhere safe. And the paycheck will get bigger—and keep her off the streets for good—if she can dig up dirt on Will Fray, the irritatingly hot “shy guy” of the band.

Problem is, Will Fray isn't who everyone thinks he is. In fact, he’s not Will at all. Matt, Will's identical twin, is actually the guy onstage, reluctantly covering for his brother while he’s in rehab. To make matters worse, Matt’s being shadowed by a cute reporter with troubled eyes determined to get the scoop. On him. And he's having trouble finding the willpower to keep his distance…

But if the secret gets out, it won't just be his head on a platter—it’ll be the whole band’s.

This Entangled Teen Crush book contains steamy make out scenes, graphic language, and a love story so hot your copy may spontaneously burst into flames. You’ve been warned.

Review

Anya and the Shy Guy...

I have to say that I really liked where the author took this book. The storyline was really interesting and a little different than the usual rockstar book. Anya is a homeless teenager who is charged with the task to discover all of Will's secrets... the bigger and juicier the better. This is the chance in a lifetime for a girl who has no idea how she is going to survive when she doesn't have any sort of education or way to make money. And from what she heard of Will, the band's "shy guy", she isn't so sure they will get along. Yet meeting Will changes everything. He isn't at all shy and is actually more outgoing and confident than the front he puts on. Even as she falls for him, she is still determined to find out his biggest secret so she can afford to sleep somewhere besides the street. Add in a band with rising tensions and a missing homeless Vet, and Anya is unprepared for a world of change.

"Will" on the other hand is not who he says he is. Instead of the "shy guy", he's actually the shy guy's twin brother who is covering for him so he can go to rehab. With his family on the line, he is determined to not let anyone close enough to find out his biggest secret... Enter Anya. A girl he can't get over and one he "pretends" to fall for. But what happens when instead of distracting her from finding the band's secrets, he gets distracted by her?!

One of my favorite parts of the book was the way the author introduced a serious issue and gave is a face and name; Anya. She makes what might seem an otherwise silly book a serious purpose. Anya has to pretend to be an older, and married, woman so that she can survive. This isn't a fun trick played by a fan, it's a young girl doing everything she can to make it out alive. I feel like this addition to the book is what boosts it to that next level.

Anya was a strong character that was very admirable. She ran away from her foster home at a young age and took to the streets. After finding a mentor in a homeless war vet, she learned the ins and outs of what it actually meant to be homeless. By writing an article on her experiences, she managed to snag a job following Will from Seconds to Juliet around. Since Will is completely different from what everyone described him to be, Anya is thrown a little off guard. Soon she starts to fall for the boy in disguise.

Will, on the other hand, aka Matt, is totally unprepared for the gal that is Anya. She is brave yet scared and she sweeps him away every time they are together. He ends up forgetting at times that he is faking. That he isn't Matt, but actually Will, the groups' shy guy. He really struggled with being someone else while falling for the girl right in front of him.

I really enjoyed all of the characters within this book. It was nice getting a look at the other guys in the band while still discovering who exactly Matt is. The author did a great job of allowing the supporting characters to add to the book. Sometimes the storyline gets caught up in someone who doesn't even add to the plot, yet this problem was not found here. Kudos.

Overall this book was a pretty good read. I really enjoyed the touches of seriousness and intenseness that popped up throughout. Anya and Matt were a cute couple who found each other in the craziest situation. The resolution was really great because it perfectly solved everything I was so unsure about though the book. A great read all in all.
