Book Review

Red heart Red heart Red heart Red heart Red heart

Before even reading a chapter, I was kind of captured by this book. It sounded really good in the synopsis so I was really looking forward to seeing where the author took the book and what direction she would lead the characters in.

The book featured a switching perspective between Darah and Henry. This made the book pretty interesting because they were so different. Reading from Darah’s perspective almost felt robotic in the first couple of chapters. Then she starts to express a little more emotion as the book furthered along. It kind of reminded me of her gaining a little humanity as the book continued. Henry, on the other hand, gained more confidence and power. This book definitely focuses on the characters’ evolvements throughout the book as they learned and grew.

Starting off the book was a little interesting for me. The time period surprised me and it took me a while to figure out that the book was set in a kind of post-apocalyptical world. Another surprising thing was the fact that Darah had this interesting mix of sensitivity and cruelty. She would have these thoughts that paralleled someone that was hurt by life, but then she would have this strength when it came to the humans of the world. At every time she caught me off guard with her actions or words. I never knew what to expect and this drove me a little mad as I was constantly kept on my toes. Yet, I really liked this aspect of the book!

I really enjoyed Darah and Henry’s relationship, mostly because they didn’t seem to realize that they had one. They though they were just using each other as one of those “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer” type of things, while in actuality, they grew close. By the end of the book there was this big realization of their relationship and future that really made me laugh just because it seemed so obvious to me.

Overall though, this book was really good. The author presented a unique story and was able to really able to pull of a good book. I loved the characters and the messes they got themselves into. And of course the ending was pretty amazing too even if it isn’t what I though it would be Winking smile.
