Blog Tour & Review
Title: Lucas – A Preston Brothers Novel
Author: Jay McLean
Release Day: November 1, 2016

In a sprint, every millisecond counts.
When you're waiting for love, those milliseconds can feel like eons.

High school senior Lucas Preston has it all: star of the track team, a scholarship waiting for him, an apartment to himself and a revolving door of girlfriends. He also has an older sister, five younger brothers and a father who relies on him to make sure those brothers don't kill each other.

His saving grace? Lois "Laney" Sanders, a girl he started to fall in like with when he was just eleven.

A girl who became his best friend, his confidant, his courage.

It took only sixteen clicks and eight seconds for Lucas to realize that his like for Laney had turned into love.

Eight life-changing seconds.

It's also the exact length of time it took to lose her.

Review:

5 "Jay McLean Why do You Torture Me" Stars!

But seriously Jay McLean, I have a bone to pick with you. You have consistently given me great, amazing and even fantastic books to read... but at a price. From More Than This to Kick, Push, these books have made me cry, laugh and hum in joy as the characters go through what seems to be endless tragedy only to barely make it out alive.

Well... I'm barely making it out alive when it comes to these books! Not only am I forgetting to eat and definitely not sleeping, I'm so consumed by these characters and their story that I sit still for hours until my legs are numb and my eyes are blurry and it's all I can do to turn the page. Your books are not only mentally exhausting but also physically exhausting and yet they are soo worth it!!!

Share your wisdom Jay... how do you create such beautiful characters (even when they're a**holes) and then write them in a unique manner in unique situations that consume my life? How?????

Lucas is probably my new favorite book! How can it not be when it has such great characters that are so relatable and realistic and just amazing?! I was dragged into this book from the first sentence and didn't stop until the very last word. How do you get over a book that changes your life and twists your emotions? You don't. Instead you wait for the author to create another masterpiece to cure the book hangover only to get stuck in the same exact cycle. Jay I've been in this cycle for what feels like centuries now!

Lucas and Laney have taken over my life like the best kind of parasite. Lucas is one of those guys that you can't help but love even after every mishap and misstep that takes place. He unknowingly breaks the heart of his best friend while still trying to be the best guy he can for her. I feel like his character was so pure even when he was slowly crushing Laney to death over his mixed signals. I can feel his earnestness through the pages as he works to do the right thing without really knowing what that is.

And Laney... man. How do I even describe the pain and heartbreak and happiness that Laney goes through in this novel? I've never empathized with a character as much as I did with Laney. I couldn't help but want her to be happy even if it wasn't with the character I rooted for! Which is really crazy because I always want my team to win (Go Team Lucas!!) And yet, I can see how the endless heartache was slowly destroying her and I couldn't help but want that torment to end.

I thought I knew what I was getting into with this novel, but like usual, Jay McLean blew my mind with the trickery of her writing. Warning to those heading into this novel: don't think you know what this book is about... because it challenges every preconceived notion you might have!!! Definitely pick up a copy ASAP... because Logan and Laney people!!!
