The Manhattan Series by Willa Thorne

4 Stars

The Manhattan Series is literally the craziest collection of books I have ever read. There is so much that goes on in these books and yet it also matches and fits really well together as the plots follow right after each other from one book to the next. I really liked how the author put this series together because separately, I feel like the books wouldn't have been long enough to really satisfy.

This series was really great at presenting characters that were pretty unique yet still conformed to the usual billionaire romances. With this series, I really liked how the two characters had a past because then the romance didn't feel so windswept and instead came more naturally in the book.

Jillie (aka "Jilli Bean") was a great character because all though she was the financially unstable one in the relationship, I never felt like she was beholden to Mason in any way. Instead she displayed a confidence and easy going nature that really drew me in and made me fall for this book. I definitely could relate to Jillie and I loved how her character truly balanced out Mason in all ways. There was definitely chemistry and I liked how genuine Jillie was throughout the novel.

The relationship between Jillie and Mason was a little unique to say the least. First off, Mason plans on using Jillie to get back at Jillie's brother who had sex with Mason's girlfriend/fiancĂ© at the time. Mason is definitely presented as a heartless SOB pretty much throughout the first book and even a little throughout the series. First introductions are a little off-putting because of this and I really didn't think much of Mason until he started to thaw out a little.

With the way the plot set itself out it was pretty easy to see where the first book was headed but past the first book the plot gets pretty complicated and I had no idea what would happen next. I liked both aspects (the predictability and the surprises) because it added depth to the book without seeming too off base or just plain crazy.

Overall this series was pretty good. My only complaint lies in the fact that there was just a little too much sex for me. I like a spicy book but this series took it a little too far and I really wanted to know more about the characters and not the personal details within the bedroom. Otherwise this series was good and I look forward to seeing more from this author.

Once upon a time,
In a city not so far away,
There lived a girl who was in love with her brother's best friend.
Years later, their paths crossed again.
But he wasn't the same man she once knew.
Jaded by the world, he decided to use her as his pawn in a plan for revenge…

British businessman, Mason Woodward, seems to have everything going for him. He’s handsome, wealthy, and knows how to get what he wants. His best friend, Travis, was like a brother to him, until the day he found him in bed with his girlfriend. Now, Mason has a plan for payback that involves Travis’ younger sister, Jillian.

"The plan seemed simple. I'd use her every which way, and then send her back to her brother with a clear message: You had your fun, and I had mine."

Little did I know that I'd end up falling for her…

The Manhattan Series includes all three books in the set.
Book 1: His Pawn
Book 2: Queen In Play
Book 3: End Game
