New Adult
It's been six months since Ashlyn Daniels was kicked out of her home. Six months since she stood up to her abusive stepfather and got a busted rib—and seeing all her things set ablaze in a backyard bonfire—for her trouble.Never going back. She doesn't need trouble...especially if trouble is tattoo artist Lane Garrett, who's six-feet-plus of tattooed hotness and a complete ass.
Lane has spent the last decade fighting to support his family. To protect them. There's no room for romance, even with a fragile (yet amusingly feisty) stunner...even if she somehow manages to invade his world and his heart.
But while some secrets are as visible as ink on the skin, others must remain hidden at all costs...

Written On My Heart...
The thing that really got me with this book was the story line. It was so touching and beautiful that I couldn't help but fall in love with the characters and their lives. Written on my Heart tells the story of Ashlyn's journey as she becomes more self-dependent and as she works to survive. What was most touching about this story was how Ashlyn didn't really let anyone close to her yet people who cared forced her to accept their help and their affection. After finally having enough of her family and after getting kicked out of her house, Ashlyn tries to survive on her own and goes through terrible roommates and overbearing boyfriends. Then when she finally finds someone who seems to like her and want to protect her, he comes with baggage that she isn't sure she can handle.
"You pull at me like the moon pulls the fucking tides. I can't fight it. I can't resist."
It was continuously ironic how Ashlyn thought the absolute worst of herslef and was letting fear rule her life when she did everything she could to care for those who needed it and who needed her. I just really wanted to reach through the book and shake some sense into her as she continually made excuses about why she didn't deserve some of the simpler things of life. This was probably the most frustrating part for me because I could see what was going to happen while Ashlyn was completely clueless.
"When you ignite a fire, you can never rebuild out of the ashes left behind."
The author did a really good job of creating emotions within this book. I felt connected to the characters and their lives and got invested in thier story. I feel like sometimes this is a key part that authors don't always right into their stories and it's why I don't always like the book as much as I did the basic plot outline.
"Because tonight I want to pretend I'm the kind of girl who could be friends with somone like Emily, a girl who goes out on Friday nights. A girl whose demons don't run deeper thatn the ink staining her skin."
Lane was just so amazing. He went through alot yet he was always there to help his sister and now Ashlyn. He was admirable for the fact that he could have such a negative outlook on life but chose to take a more happy tone instead. He does what he loves and makes sure to provide for his family in any way he can. Lane Garrett is definitely your next book boyfriend!
"The words in my home were never soft. They pierced my skin like porcupine quills, jagged and sharp. No matter how hard I tried to pull them free, they stayed a part of me."
Overall this book was so beautiful and I loved how emotional and heartbreaking it was. There was definitely a good balance between sadness and happiness and I can say with cheer that this book does leave off on an unexpected positive note!
"I won't ever look back"
