Finding Forever...
Melody Anne is one of my favorite authors and she definitely didn't disappoint with this book! Finding Forever is the love story of Whitney Steele and Liam Felton. Whitney had lost her sister and was now taking care of her sister's two children. Struggling to find a job with flexible hours so she could take care of her niece and nephew while balancing her own grief was taking its tole. Having to drop out of school to take care of them was making the job search that much harder. Enter Liam Felton. Liam finds out about his brother's death a year afterwards in a letter telling both Liam and his father that after he left the family, he had gotten married and had two children. And that these two children were now in the care of Whitney, his wife's sister. Determined to keep the children within the family and close to the Felton home, Liam sets off to introduce his niece and nephew to the family.
The thing I really love about this book is that it was pretty light-hearted. Yes the family as a whole was dealing with loss, but there was enough time to where the story starts off when the family is healing. The author did a good job of making the characters and their situations feel very real and relatable. It was really easy for me to get involved emotionally with the book.
Whitney was an admirable character as she didn't ever complain about her situation. She devoted her life to her niece and nephew and her love for them showed in every action. Her whole focus was on the children, not her own job or education. Because of this, she kind of was easy to control. Liam and his father used this against her to get what they wanted. They wanted the kids to be with them so they told Whitney that the children should be with their family and that their grandfather was too sick to travel (it was a reoccurring theme the whole sick grandpa thing).
I liked Liam, but I felt like he was a little basic. He felt like the usual snooty aristocrat that didn't understand what it was to love. I think I would have liked to see a secret side to him or a realization of what a douche canoe he was. There was a small moment where Liam did realize he was in the wrong but I felt like it wasn't a big enough moment. I kept waiting for a kind of climax to the book, some kind of turning point for both characters, but it didn't really reach this point for me.
Otherwise, the book was a really cute and fun read. The characters were pretty great and I loved some of the antics of them. It was good to see some of the recovery process that comes out of losing someone (and this case two someones).
